The Discord Activity, for players
If your table plays in a Discord voice channel, Nexus can sit right there with you. This one is optional too: everything also works in the browser.
What it shows
- The live transcript, when your GM has transcription on.
- The initiative order during a fight.
- A strip of the table's recent rolls.
- The session recap.
You don't roll inside the Activity. Roll on your character sheet in Nexus or with /nexus roll in Discord, and the result shows up in the log for everyone.
Before you start
- A Nexus account with a seat in the campaign. Your GM's invite link handles that; here's how invites work.
- Your GM has added the Nexus bot to the server and linked the campaign. That part is in Discord setup for GMs.
Launch it
- Join your table's voice channel in Discord.
- Start an Activity from the voice channel controls and pick Narrative Nexus.
- Approve the Discord permission prompt the first time.
Picking the campaign is the GM's job. If the companion says it's waiting for the first words, the GM hasn't summoned the bot into the channel yet.
Link your account
The first time, the Activity may say Link your Discord to Narrative Nexus. That means Nexus doesn't know which account is yours yet.
- Choose Link in browser. If nothing opens, copy the link printed under the button into your browser.
- Sign in to Nexus and choose Link Discord Account on the Connections page.
- Come back to Discord and choose Already linked? Re-check.
Prefer to get it done ahead of game night? Link your Discord any time from Connections in your account settings.
Claim your character
If your character isn't matched to you yet, the Activity offers Choose a character to claim under the transcript. Pick yours and claim it. If someone got there first, pick a different seat or ask your GM to sort it out.
If something looks off
- No transcript: your GM needs the bot in voice with recording consent affirmed. Here is what recording means for you.
- An error that won't clear: leave the Activity and launch it again from the voice channel. A fresh start fixes most hiccups.
- Want to disconnect your Discord from Nexus? Use Connections in your account settings.
