Voice Transcription

1. Who can turn it on

Only a campaign's GM (or someone with the permission to start a session) can turn on voice transcription, either from the browser microphone control on the live transcript panel or by linking the campaign's Discord voice channel with /nexus link. Before the first stream for a session, that GM has to confirm everyone currently at the table is informed and okay with it. That confirmation is on file per session (a table's group can change from one session to the next, so a new session needs its own confirmation), and our server refuses to start a transcription stream without it — it is not just a UI checkbox.

2. What is captured

While transcription is on, your microphone audio streams live to our speech-to-text provider (Soniox or Groq, whichever our system is configured to use) for conversion to text. We do not save the raw audio anywhere — the audio is not written to a file or object storage on our side; only the text that comes back is stored, as part of that session's transcript.

We do not use voiceprint (biometric) speaker identification to work out who is talking. In a linked Discord voice channel, a line of transcript is attributed to whichever Discord account is speaking in that channel, using Discord's own per-user audio streams — not a voice fingerprint. In the browser, a line is attributed to whichever signed-in account (or session participant) is holding that capture connection. If several people share one browser microphone, the transcript is not split apart by voice — it is attributed to the one connection.

3. Where it goes

The resulting transcript is stored with your campaign's session data and is visible to that session's participants the same way other session content is — it can feed the live recap and session summary features. It follows the same account and content retention described in our Privacy Policy, including deletion when the owning account or campaign is deleted.

4. If you do not want to be transcribed

• Say so before the GM starts recording — the affirmation step exists so this conversation happens up front, every time a campaign starts using it.
• Mute your microphone, or leave the linked Discord voice channel, while transcription is running. Muted or absent audio produces no transcript for you.
• Ask your GM to stop the stream (the browser control has a Stop button; unlinking or leaving voice ends the Discord path).
