Terms of Service
Last updated August 22, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Narrative Nexus website and application (the “Service”), operated by Narrative Nexus LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you have the authority to enter into this agreement.
2. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You may not share your account with others or use another user's account without permission. Notify us immediately at hello@narrative.sh if you suspect unauthorised access.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to create or distribute content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or that infringes third-party intellectual property rights
- Attempt to access other users' data without authorisation, or probe or scan the Service for security vulnerabilities
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service
- Use automated tools (scrapers, bots) to extract data from the Service at scale, except where explicitly permitted by our public APIs
- Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any rate limits, access controls, or subscription restrictions
- Reproduce copyrighted game content (e.g., proprietary rule text, stat blocks beyond SRD) through the Service in violation of publisher terms
4. Your content
You retain ownership of the content you create in the Service (campaign notes, characters, maps, etc.). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, display, and process your content solely to operate the Service on your behalf.
You represent that you own or have the right to use any content you submit, and that your content does not infringe any third-party rights. You are responsible for ensuring that AI-generated content you publish or share complies with applicable laws and does not infringe third-party intellectual property.
5. AI features
Certain features use AI models to generate suggestions, summaries, and content. AI output is not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or appropriate for all uses. You are responsible for reviewing AI-generated content before using it at the table or publishing it.
Do not submit sensitive personal information (e.g., medical data, financial account numbers) through AI prompts. Content you submit to AI features is processed by the AI providers listed in our Privacy Policy.
6. Subscription and billing
Some features require a paid subscription. Subscription fees are billed in advance through Stripe. You may cancel your subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you retain access until then. We do not provide pro-rated refunds for unused subscription time unless required by applicable law.
A paid subscription belongs to the subscribing account. It covers features in every campaign that account owns, and those campaigns share one included AI and storage pool. Campaign members may inherit covered features while participating, but only the subscriber may manage the plan, payment method, cancellation, or invoices.
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with 30 days' notice. Continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new pricing.
7. Intellectual property
The Service, including its interface, branding, original written content, and software, is owned by Narrative Nexus LLC and protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our written permission.
Compendium content derived from the Systems Reference Document 5.2.1 is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. Other licensed content is attributed as described on the Legal & Licences page. “Narrative Nexus” and associated marks are trademarks of Narrative Nexus LLC.
The separate Artist Beta Terms describe the current founder-run closed beta, including artist-owned copyright, approved public derivatives, and direct payments.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, engage in conduct that threatens the security or integrity of the Service, or for any other reason with reasonable notice. You may close your account at any time through account settings or by emailing hello@narrative.sh. On termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) USD $50. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Texas. If you are a consumer in the European Union or United Kingdom, nothing in these Terms limits your rights under applicable local consumer protection law.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will provide at least 14 days' notice of material changes by updating the date above and, where appropriate, by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. Content moderation and reporting
This section explains how we handle unlawful and rule-breaking content on the Service, in line with the UK Online Safety Act and the EU Digital Services Act.
Prohibited content. Beyond the conduct listed in Section 3 (Acceptable use), you may not post or share content that:
- Is illegal under the law of the United Kingdom, the European Union, or your home jurisdiction
- Depicts or promotes child sexual abuse material, terrorism, or non-consensual sexual content
- Incites violence or hatred against a person or group on the basis of a protected characteristic
- Infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
Reporting content. Every public compendium entry carries a “Report” control for flagging illegal content or IP infringement — it works whether or not you're signed in, and you may report anonymously. General feedback (a rule reads wrong, a detail is missing) has its own, separate “Spot something?” control; use Report for content you believe breaks the law or this policy.
What happens after you report. A report reaches our review queue directly — it is never auto-dismissed by spam filtering. We triage it, and if we act on it, we remove or restrict the content. When we do, the person who posted it receives a statement of reasons: what we restricted, which of the grounds above applied (illegal content, Terms violation, or IP infringement), the facts we relied on, and how to appeal. If you left contact information with your report, we confirm we received it.
Appeals and complaints. If your content was removed and you believe that was wrong, reply to the statement of reasons or email legal@narrative.sh and we'll review it. That same address is our designated point of contact for content-moderation matters under DSA Articles 11 and 12 — for both regulators and users, whether you're reporting content, appealing a decision, or raising a complaint about how we handled one.
13. Contact
Questions about these Terms? Email us at legal@narrative.sh. For content-moderation reports, appeals, or complaints, see Section 12 above — legal@narrative.sh is also our DSA Article 11/12 point of contact for authorities and users alike.
