The Green Lord's Tomb
Ancient barrow of a forest god, now fouled by something worse than death.
A dome-shaped Green Lord tomb in The Great Wood, buried under ages of forest growth and recently claimed by Sajra the Swyn as its lair.
This is the worked-example site from Book I's Sites chapter — built up step by step as a parent site with seven main-level areas and a sealed inner tomb. Use it as the template for any Maker-ruin-as-villain-lair, especially when nesting sub-sites: a hidden secret tunnel, a guarded inner sanctum, a corrupted shrine.
Story in one paragraph
The Green Lords interred one of their own here millennia ago. When The Fae rebelled they ransacked the outer halls but loyal Fae kept the inner vault sealed. Centuries later Thornthumb — a displaced Fae plant-creature — moved into the outer tunnels and quietly tended the place for a thousand years, collecting tolls from Forest Folk petitioners. Last autumn Sajra the Swyn arrived from Vor Svetelik, mind-dominated Thornthumb into oathbound exile, and turned the resident crinwin into fawning servants. Now it sits in the converted shrine, accumulating a hoard and entrancing stolen children.
Layout
- Exterior: low hill, three bare oaks with Crinwin Nests Outside the Tomb
- Entrance chamber (A) → collapsed hallway (B) or central chamber (C)
- Central chamber (C): hub connecting B, the Mossy Chamber of the Green Lord's Tomb, the Sajra's Shrine, and Pryder's Hallway
- Great hall (G): crinwin nests, Unstable Pillars of the Great Hall, stairs down to the Intact Inner Tomb
- A hidden tunnel from outside surfaces under a trapdoor in the mossy chamber
- Crinwin burrows thread the hill (too small for PCs)
How to run the assault
- Run as cat-and-mouse: crinwin sentries outside birdsong-signal each other and rally near the entrance once alerted
- Sajra is likely not in the tomb when the PCs arrive — roll Die of Fate per its disposition table
- The PCs need to choose: rescue Wynfor/Tiwlip/Pryder fast, fight the crinwin attritionally, or push through to the inner tomb for the mummified Green Lord
- The inner tomb is sealed by Fae wards and three ordeal-halls; intentionally left thin so the GM improvises if PCs get past the Almtakers

Origin: Green Lords
Purpose: Burial vault and false afterlife for an interred Green Lord; outer halls served the petitioner-Forest Folk.
Condition: Outer halls ransacked by rebel Fae millennia ago, then quietly inhabited by Thornthumb (1000+ years), now claimed by Sajra and its crinwin (last autumn). Inner vault still sealed and intact.
Denizens
- Sajra the swyn (threat) — Lairs in the shrine; uses tunnels to flank. Priorities: itself, ego, hoard/lair/kids; crinwin are expendable.
- Trusted crinwin (monster) — ~15. Nest inside, fight to death. Mimic Sajra's voice, lord over the new crinwin.
- New crinwin (monster) — ~15. Nest outside, flee at half losses. Mimic the kids' voices, jealous of everyone.
- Wynfor (npc) — Caradoc's nephew, entranced, kept with Sajra. Will stab to defend the hoard.
- Tiwlip (npc) — Taken last winter, entranced, kept with Sajra. Same as Wynfor.
- Pryder (npc) — Just arrived, concussed/feverish in a burial niche. Sajra ordered him to sleep — mind still free.
- Spirit of the spring (spirit) — Anxious mile-a-minute whisperer in the shrine. Hates Sajra, frets over its opinion.
- Moss spirits (spirit) — Vain, moody horde in the mossy chamber. Express themselves visually.
- The Almtakers (fae) — Guardian Fae of the Hall of Offerings, keeping the inner vault sealed.
- The mummified Green Lord (monster) — Still ensconced in the sealed burial vault, blissfully unaware of everything above.
