Thornthumb
A spurned spirit who remembers every slight and repays them slowly.
A spirit the PCs met, allied with, were betrayed by, and pried a promise from. He's still out there, and he's the type to hold a grudge.
Thornthumb is one of Book I's two opening examples — a captured-and-released magical entity who lingers as a threat precisely because he didn't die. Use him as the template for a bargained-with magical entity: bound by promises that he resents, plotting around them, looking for openings.
Dwelt in the Green Lord's tomb. Tried to steal from the PCs, was caught, helped them kill Sajra the Swyn under duress, then grudgingly promised Vahid not to steal from, harm, or trap them. Lusts after the Mindgem. Scared of Rhianna. Thinks Caradoc is an easy mark. Blodwen owes him for the flower he gave her.
Custom move
When you send word to Thornthumb via spirits, birds, or beasts, say when and where in the Wood you'd like to meet. At the appointed time and place, roll +INT:
- 10+: he shows
- 7-9: he shows, but the GM picks 1:
- He's insulted by the summons
- You are now beholden to him
- A debt he owes you is now fulfilled
