Multiclassing
Multiclassing requires ability score minimums (usually 13) and grants limited proficiencies. Spellcaster levels combine for shared slot progression.
Multiclassing lets you gain levels in more than one class, combining their features at the cost of slower progression in each.
Prerequisites: To multiclass, you must meet the ability score minimum for both your current class and the new class:
Experience and leveling: Your character level is the sum of all class levels. XP thresholds use total character level.
Hit points: You gain the hit die of the new class. At each level after 1st in the new class, roll or take average + CON modifier.
Proficiencies gained: Multiclassing into a class grants only some of its proficiencies (not all starting proficiencies):
- Barbarian: Shields, simple weapons, martial weapons
- Bard: Light armor, one skill of choice, one musical instrument
- Cleric: Light armor, medium armor, shields
- Druid: Light armor, medium armor, shields (non-metal only)
- Fighter: Light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, martial weapons
- Monk: Simple weapons, shortswords
- Paladin: Light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, martial weapons
- Ranger: Light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, martial weapons, one skill from the Ranger list
- Rogue: Light armor, one skill from the Rogue list, thieves' tools
- Sorcerer: None
- Warlock: Light armor, simple weapons
- Wizard: None
Spellcasting: Multiclass spellcasters combine spell slots using the multiclass spellcaster table. Spell slots are determined by adding full caster levels (Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard), half caster levels rounded down (Paladin, Ranger), and one-third caster levels rounded down (Eldritch Knight, Arcane Trickster). Known and prepared spells are tracked separately per class.
Extra Attack: The Extra Attack feature does not stack between classes.
