Ages of the World

A loose timeline of the World's End, leaving plenty of room for the table to fill in specifics. Dates are vague on purpose — "centuries ago," "a few decades," "recent memory."

The Time of Cataclysm

Centuries ago, over a span of decades.

  • The Stone Lords' servants rebel, unleash The Things Below, and sink Dulenn — creating Blackwater Lake
  • The Northernmost is overrun by horrors from the Dread River
  • Rebels hunt down the surviving Stone Lords
  • Teirstered falls and becomes Three Coven Lake
  • Refugees begin streaming to Stormcatcher's tower
  • The Howling Curse nearly collapses The Rime Lords' civilization
  • Volcanic eruptions destroy Moratia Rubra; The Forge Lords' society collapses
  • More refugees arrive at Stormcatcher's tower
  • Surviving Rime Lords sacrifice themselves to contain the Howling Curse
  • Stormcatcher's tower falls

The Time of the Barrow Builders

Centuries ago, over a span of generations.

  • First barrows built to honor freedom fighters
  • Emanations of The Things Below roam freely, worshipped and appeased
  • Warlords and sorcerer-kings vie for power, building more elaborate barrows
  • Battles over Three Coven Lake, the Ruins at Road's End, etc.
  • Refugees, enslavement, human sacrifice — all-around bad times
  • Subjects of the Barrow Builders overthrow, abandon, or imprison their tyrannical rulers
  • Certain bands of Barrow Builders flee into The Labyrinth

The Current Age

Starting a few centuries ago.

  • The power of The Things Below ebbs (reasons unclear)
  • Barrow Builder culture gives rise to The Hillfolk
  • Marshedge founded
  • Stonetop founded
  • The region stabilizes; trade routes are established
  • Gordin's Delve settled, the Foundry established

Recent memory

The last decade or so.

  • Brennan and the Claws start raiding
  • Earthquakes become more common
  • The Forest Folk disappear
  • Brennan is hired as Marshedge's marshal
  • Crinwin, nailadd, and other creatures grow in numbers
