Movement and Speed
Speed governs Stride distance (1 action); Stride moves full speed, Step moves 5 feet safely; difficult terrain doubles movement cost.
Character Speed determines how far you can move with a single action.
Stride (1 action): Move up to your Speed in feet. By default, human and most ancestry Speed is 25 feet.
Step (1 action): Move exactly 5 feet without triggering reactions (like Attack of Opportunity). Useful for repositioning near dangerous enemies.
Speed Values by Ancestry:
Types of Movement Speed:
Difficult Terrain: Costs 2 feet of movement per 1 foot traveled. Moving through difficult terrain uses additional movement.
Hazardous Terrain: Damages creatures passing through it.
Flanking: Two allies flanking an enemy make it off-guard (−2 circumstance penalty to AC) against their melee attacks. To flank, you and an ally must be on opposite sides or opposite corners of the enemy, and both of you must be able to act (not unconscious, paralyzed, etc.). You must be threatening the enemy with a melee weapon or unarmed attack (not ranged). Flanking is one of the most common ways to make a target off-guard, enabling Rogues' Sneak Attack and improving hit chances for everyone.
