Champion

A sworn oath binds a warrior's blade to a deity's cause, letting them punish anyone who strikes down the allies under their watch.

Champions are divine warriors devoted to a deity, combining heavy armor mastery with powerful reactions and auras that protect allies. They are PF2e's paladin equivalent.

Key Ability: Strength or Dexterity

Hit Points per Level: 10 + Constitution modifier

Perception Proficiency: Trained

Saving Throws: Expert Fortitude, Trained Reflex, Expert Will

Skills: Religion (trained), plus 4 + Intelligence modifier additional skills

Attacks: Trained with simple and martial weapons, unarmed attacks

Defenses: Trained in all armor and unarmored defense

Spellcasting: Divine tradition, focus spells (no prepared or spontaneous slots at level 1, gains spells later)

Key 1st-Level Features:

  • Deity & Cause: Choose a deity and a cause (Paladin/Liberator/Redeemer). Your cause defines your Champion's Reaction.
  • Champion's Reaction: Paladin's Retributive Strike — when an enemy damages your ally and both are within your champion's aura, you can use your reaction to grant the ally resistance to all damage equal to 2 + your level and make a melee Strike against the attacker if within reach. Liberator grants a freeing reaction; Redeemer grants an enfeebling reaction.
  • Divine Ally (Level 3): Bond with a blade (weapon gains a property rune), a shield (increased Hardness and HP), or a steed (gain a young animal companion mount).
  • Lay on Hands (Focus Spell): Heal an ally for 6 HP (scaling) as a 1-action focus spell.
