Deception
Charisma-based skill for lying, bluffing, and creating false impressions.
Deception covers misleading others through lies, misdirection, and false impressions. It is governed by Charisma.
When to roll: The DM calls for a Deception check when a character attempts to lie convincingly or conceal the truth.
Common uses:
- Telling a convincing lie under questioning
- Maintaining a false identity or disguise
- Bluffing during a game of chance or negotiation
- Misleading a guard about your intentions
- Sending false non-verbal signals
Contested checks: Deception is typically contested by the target's Wisdom (Insight) check.
