Insight
Wisdom-based skill for reading people, sensing emotions, and detecting deception.
Insight covers reading people — sensing their true emotions and determining whether they are lying or hiding something. It is governed by Wisdom.
When to roll: The DM calls for an Insight check when a character tries to read another creature's emotional state or intentions.
Common uses:
- Determining if someone is lying or concealing information
- Reading a person's mood, fear, or confidence level
- Sensing the motivations behind a request or offer
- Noticing the tell-tale signs of deception or bluffing
Contested checks: Insight is often contested by the target's Charisma (Deception) check.
Versus Perception: Perception notices observable details; Insight interprets what those details mean about a person's inner state.
