Performance

Charisma-based skill for entertaining audiences through music, acting, dance, or storytelling.

Performance covers entertaining an audience through music, acting, dance, storytelling, or other performing arts. It is governed by Charisma.

When to roll: The DM calls for a Performance check when a character tries to entertain or captivate an audience.

Common uses:

  • Playing an instrument at a tavern for tips
  • Acting in a play or telling an engaging story
  • Dancing at a noble's court
  • Performing a religious ritual with artistic elements
  • Busking in the streets

Versus Deception: Performance creates an honest entertainment; Deception creates a false impression. An actor playing a villain is using Performance. Someone claiming to be a noble they are not uses Deception.

Proficiency: Bard commonly has Performance proficiency.
