Condition — Grabbed
Grabbed: Off-Guard (-2 AC), Immobilized, DC 5 flat check for manipulate actions. Freed by Escape action. Core martial control tactic. Less severe than Restrained.
A creature is holding you in place. You are stuck and exposed.
Mechanical Effects:
- You are Off-Guard (-2 circumstance penalty to AC)
- You are Immobilized (can't use movement actions)
- You must succeed at a DC 5 flat check for any action with the manipulate trait (drawing weapons, retrieving items, casting spells with somatic components)
- If the flat check fails, the action is wasted
How Applied:
- Grapple action (Athletics check vs. Fortitude DC)
- Monster grab abilities (many monsters have "Grab" or "Improved Grab")
- Some spells and effects
How Removed:
- Escape action (your choice of Acrobatics or Athletics vs. the grabber's Athletics DC)
- The grabber releasing you (costs them a free action)
- The grabber being Incapacitated or moving away
- Freedom of movement or similar magic
- Breaking the grab through force (dealing enough damage to disable the grabber)
Interactions:
- The creature grabbing you must use one hand/limb to maintain the grab
- If the grabber is knocked Prone, the grab ends
- Grabbed is less severe than Restrained (Restrained = Off-Guard + Immobilized + more restrictions)
- A Critical Success on Grapple makes the target Restrained instead of Grabbed
Tactical Impact: Grabbing is a core martial tactic in PF2e. Off-Guard (-2 AC) for the entire party to exploit, plus Immobilized to prevent positioning. Athletics-focused characters (Fighters, Monks with Grapple) can lock down key targets.
