Condition — Fascinated

Fascinated: can't act against source's enemies, -2 status to Perception and skills. Ended immediately by hostile action against you. Soft crowd control.

You are captivated by something and can't focus on anything else.

Mechanical Effects:

  • You can't use actions against the source of your fascination's enemies or allies (effectively, you can't help in combat)
  • You take a -2 status penalty to Perception checks and skill checks
  • You can't voluntarily move toward or interact with anything other than the source of fascination
  • You can still defend yourself if attacked (you're not helpless)

How Applied:

  • Enchantment and illusion spells
  • Bardic performances (hostile use)
  • Some monster abilities (harpy song, nymph beauty)
  • Extraordinary displays or spectacles

How Removed:

  • Taking hostile action against you ends Fascinated immediately
  • An ally using an action to shake you out of it (like calling your name)
  • The source of fascination ending or being removed
  • Duration expiry
  • Moving out of range of the effect

Important Notes:

  • Fascinated does NOT make you helpless — you retain your AC and can react to attacks
  • It primarily removes you from combat by preventing offensive actions
  • Fascinated creatures are vulnerable targets because they're distracted, but attacking them breaks the fascination

Tactical Impact: Fascinated is a soft crowd control — it removes enemies from combat without direct damage. Breaking it is easy (any hostile action), so it's best used to create openings or distract key targets for a round.
