Condition — Fascinated
Fascinated: can't act against source's enemies, -2 status to Perception and skills. Ended immediately by hostile action against you. Soft crowd control.
You are captivated by something and can't focus on anything else.
Mechanical Effects:
- You can't use actions against the source of your fascination's enemies or allies (effectively, you can't help in combat)
- You take a -2 status penalty to Perception checks and skill checks
- You can't voluntarily move toward or interact with anything other than the source of fascination
- You can still defend yourself if attacked (you're not helpless)
How Applied:
- Enchantment and illusion spells
- Bardic performances (hostile use)
- Some monster abilities (harpy song, nymph beauty)
- Extraordinary displays or spectacles
How Removed:
- Taking hostile action against you ends Fascinated immediately
- An ally using an action to shake you out of it (like calling your name)
- The source of fascination ending or being removed
- Duration expiry
- Moving out of range of the effect
Important Notes:
- Fascinated does NOT make you helpless — you retain your AC and can react to attacks
- It primarily removes you from combat by preventing offensive actions
- Fascinated creatures are vulnerable targets because they're distracted, but attacking them breaks the fascination
Tactical Impact: Fascinated is a soft crowd control — it removes enemies from combat without direct damage. Breaking it is easy (any hostile action), so it's best used to create openings or distract key targets for a round.
