Condition — Paralyzed
Paralyzed: Off-Guard, can't take physical actions (only mental). Can't speak. One of the most severe conditions. Freed by saves, Freedom of Movement, or duration expiry.
Your body is frozen. You can't move or act physically.
Mechanical Effects:
- You are Off-Guard (-2 circumstance to AC)
- You can't take any physical actions — no Strikes, no movement, no manipulate actions
- You CAN take purely mental actions (Recall Knowledge, sustain a mental spell, send a telepathic message)
- You can't speak (your mouth is paralyzed)
- You can't use reactions that require physical movement
How Applied:
- Hold Person/Hold Monster spells
- Ghoul paralysis (critical failure vs. their claws)
- Certain poisons (like lich venom)
- Some gaze attacks and fear effects
How Removed:
- Duration expiry (most paralysis effects have a duration or allow repeated saves)
- Saving throw at end of each turn (if the source allows)
- Freedom of movement
- Remove paralysis or similar healing
Interactions:
- More severe than Grabbed or Restrained — you can't take ANY physical actions
- Off-Guard from Paralyzed stacks with nothing (you already have -2 circumstance to AC from other Off-Guard sources — they don't double)
- A paralyzed spellcaster can't cast spells with somatic or verbal components (only purely mental spells work)
Tactical Impact: Paralysis is one of the most devastating conditions. A paralyzed character is essentially removed from combat. Off-Guard makes them easy to hit, and they can't fight back. The party must protect a paralyzed ally or risk losing them.
