Medicine

Wisdom-based skill for stabilizing the dying, diagnosing illness, and providing medical care.

Medicine covers stabilizing the dying and treating wounds. It is governed by Wisdom.

When to roll: The DM calls for a Medicine check when a character attempts to provide medical aid.

Common uses:

  • Stabilizing a creature that has dropped to 0 hit points (DC 10)
  • Diagnosing a disease or poison and identifying a treatment
  • Determining the cause of death when examining a body
  • Assessing the severity of injuries

Stabilizing: As an action, you can use Medicine to stabilize a dying creature without a healer's kit (DC 10). A healer's kit can be used to stabilize automatically, without a check.

Proficiency: Cleric and some Paladin subclasses commonly have Medicine proficiency.
