Character Sheet

The record that defines a character: ability scores, proficiencies, HP, equipment, features, and backstory.

A character sheet is the record that defines a player character. It captures everything the rules need to know about the character at a given moment.

A character sheet records:

  • Identity: name, species, class(es) and levels, background, alignment, player
  • Ability scores and modifiers: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma
  • Proficiency Bonus and proficient skills, tools, saving throws, weapons, and armor
  • Hit Points, Hit Dice, and current/temporary HP totals
  • Armor Class, Initiative, and Speed
  • Attacks and damage dice
  • Spells known/prepared, spell slots, spell save DC, spell attack bonus
  • Equipment carried, equipped, and stored, plus currency
  • Features and traits from species, class, background, and feats
  • Languages known
  • Personality, ideals, bonds, flaws, and backstory notes
  • Experience Points or milestone progress tracked toward the next level

Why it matters: When a rule references "what's on your sheet," it means this aggregate. Temporary bonuses (a Bardic Inspiration die, a stacked buff) live alongside the sheet but are not part of it. Permanent gains from level-up are written to the sheet.

In Narrative Nexus, the character sheet is materialized on the characters table and rendered as the canonical view a player owns.
