Thorn-Trap Greenhouse Chest
Something precious inside, and something patient waiting for curious hands.
An impossibly well-preserved wooden chest in the Old Maker Greenhouse Near Sajra's Lair, holding magical seeds that the crinwin haven't been able to crack. The clasp is trapped.
Presented as a detailed-description hazard — the GM thought through how the trap actually works in advance, because traps invented on the spot tend to fall apart under scrutiny.
How it works
- Two particular knots in the wood must be pressed before the clasp is disturbed
- Otherwise a thorn shoots from the clasp and pricks the handler
- The thorn carries a lethal poison: d10 damage, ignores armor, will quickly necrotize flesh and stop a heart if untreated
What's telegraphed
A dead crinwin lies nearby with a withered, blackened hand. It tried.
Telegraphing the trap
The poison is meant to kill. Telegraph it (the dead crinwin, the knots, the impossibly preserved wood). On a Defy Danger or Burgle 6-, choose: jump to the poisoning, or call out the knots and offer riches at a price.
