Most people hope for a quiet life. They spend their days a-worrying: about a leaky roof, a sick child, their crops. But you aren't like most people—you're on a different path. A path to adventure! There's greatness in you. Let's hope you live long enough for everyone else to see it.

The Would-Be Hero is Stonetop's untested underdog: an earnest dreamer with no special training, only raw potential and the stubbornness to keep getting back up. They start as a blank slate and grow into greatness through sheer experience, borrowing moves from any other playbook as they find their footing.

Their instincts run to Defiance, Destined, Doubt, Driven, Earnestness, Optimism, or Sacrifice.

Through Versatile they can learn a move from any companion's path — The Heavy, The Ranger, The Marshal, or any of the others — making them the village's most unpredictable hand in a crisis.

Potential for Greatness

A unique advancement track. Once per level, when you roll a stat and get a 10+, you may mark one of six boxes (in any order, noting the level): four of them each raise the rolled stat by +1 to a max of +2, one increases your max HP by 4, and one bumps your damage die to a d8. Once all six marks are filled, you qualify for Superior Stat, raising one stat by +1 to a max of +3.
