Proficiency System
Five proficiency ranks (Untrained through Legendary) each add a flat bonus plus character level to rolls.
Proficiency measures training in weapons, armor, skills, saves, and spellcasting. Five ranks exist: Untrained (0), Trained (+2), Expert (+4), Master (+6), Legendary (+8). Each rank adds its bonus plus your character level to the relevant d20 roll.
Proficiency bonus = rank bonus + character level
Untrained characters add only their level. This means even an untrained 10th-level soldier can attempt most tasks — they're just worse than a trained 1st-level character at low levels, and equal by mid-levels. Classes grant initial proficiencies and advance them on a schedule.
