Bulk and Encumbrance

Items have Bulk values; carrying too much causes encumbrance penalties. Equipment uses item levels instead of rarity.

Items have a Bulk value: L (light), 1, 2, etc. Ten L items equal 1 Bulk. Your carrying capacity equals 5 + Strength modifier Bulk before becoming encumbered (−10 Speed, −1 checks). You're overburdened at 10 + Strength modifier Bulk and can barely move.

Credits (the standard currency) weigh negligible amounts. Weapons, armor, and gear are the primary Bulk concerns — a soldier in heavy armor with a longarm and grenades approaches encumbrance quickly without high Strength.

Equipment is rated by item level (1–20) rather than rarity alone, with higher-level items requiring higher-level sources and greater credit costs.
