Arcana

Intelligence-based skill for recalling arcane lore, identifying magic, deciphering arcane texts, and learning arcane spells.

Arcana (Intelligence)

Arcana represents knowledge of arcane magic theory, magical traditions, and spellcasting principles. It governs understanding of spells, magical items, constructs, and arcane phenomena.

Untrained actions:

  • Recall Knowledge: Identify a creature with the arcane or magical trait, remember a fact about arcane spells, or recall details about constructs and magical phenomena.

Trained actions:

  • Identify Magic: Spend 10 minutes examining a magical item or ongoing spell to determine its properties. Failure means you cannot try again until you gain more information.
  • Learn a Spell (Arcane): Copy an arcane spell from a scroll or spellbook into your own spellbook.
  • Decipher Writing: Decode arcane writing, magical symbols, or coded messages about magical subjects.

Critical Success on Recall Knowledge: You recall precise and detailed information, including weaknesses or special properties.

Critical Failure on Recall Knowledge: You misremember — the GM provides false information.
