Multiple Attack Penalty
Attacks after the first take cumulative -5/-10 penalties (or -4/-8 with agile weapons). Any action with the attack trait increases MAP. Resets each turn.
Multiple Attack Penalty (MAP)
Each time you make an attack during your turn, subsequent attacks become less accurate. This is the Multiple Attack Penalty.
Standard MAP: Your first attack each turn has no penalty. Your second attack takes a -5 penalty. Your third and any further attacks take a -10 penalty. MAP resets at the start of your next turn.
Agile Weapons: Weapons and unarmed attacks with the agile trait reduce MAP. With an agile weapon, the penalties are 0 / -4 / -8 instead of 0 / -5 / -10. This makes agile weapons significantly better for multiple attacks per turn.
What Counts as an Attack: Any action with the attack trait increases your MAP, not just Strikes. Grapple, Shove, Trip, Disarm, Feint (if it has the attack trait), and similar combat maneuvers all count. The MAP applies based on how many attack-trait actions you've used this turn, regardless of which specific actions they were.
Strategic Implications: MAP is the core reason PF2e's action economy encourages diverse turn structures. Making three Strikes in one turn is almost always suboptimal because the third Strike at -10 rarely hits. Instead, effective turns combine one or two Strikes with movement, skill actions, or support actions like Raise a Shield or Demoralize.
