Exploration Activities

Exploration activities chosen during travel and dungeon delving, each providing ongoing benefits like [[compendium:skill:Stealth]] movement, passive magic detection, or hazard searching.

Exploration mode covers the time between combat encounters — dungeon delving, overland travel, city navigation, and investigation.

Pace: During exploration, the party moves at a pace agreed upon:

  • Normal Pace: Standard adventuring speed.
  • Hustle: Double speed for up to 10 minutes per hour. Fatiguing if sustained.
  • Slow Pace: Half speed. Allows careful searching.

Exploration Activities (choose one while traveling):

  • Avoid Notice: Use Stealth to stay hidden during travel. You roll Stealth for initiative if combat starts.
  • Defend: Hold your shield up; gain Raise a Shield bonus. You roll Perception for initiative.
  • Detect Magic: Continuously cast Detect Magic. You notice magic auras automatically.
  • Follow the Expert: An untrained character follows an expert, getting a +2 circumstance bonus to a skill the expert demonstrates.
  • Investigate: Closely examine your surroundings. Gather Information checks happen automatically.
  • Repeat a Spell: Continuously cast a sustained spell (costs spell slots normally).
  • Scout: Move ahead to spot hazards. Allies gain a +1 circumstance bonus to initiative.
  • Search: Look for secret doors and hazards. You make Perception checks against all hidden hazards.
  • Sense Motive: Notice deceptive behavior and read NPC attitudes.
  • Track: Use Survival to follow a trail.
