Wizards are arcane prepared spellcasters who access the broadest spell list in the game. They are scholars of magic who study from spellbooks and specialize in an arcane school curriculum.
Key Ability: Intelligence
Hit Points per Level: 6 + Constitution modifier
Perception Proficiency: Trained
Saving Throws: Trained Fortitude, Trained Reflex, Expert Will
Skills: Arcana (trained), plus 2 + Intelligence modifier additional skills
Attacks: Trained with simple weapons and unarmed attacks
Defenses: Trained in unarmored defense only
Spellcasting: Arcane tradition, prepared (Intelligence-based). Start with 5 cantrips and 2 first-rank spell slots.
Key 1st-Level Features:
- Arcane Spellcasting: Prepare spells from the arcane list (the largest in the game). Add 2 new spells to your spellbook each level for free; copy additional spells from scrolls or other spellbooks.
- Spellbook: You own a spellbook containing your known spells. At level 1, you know 10 arcane cantrips and spells.
- Arcane School (Curriculum): In the Remaster, schools are organized around themes rather than the legacy 8 schools. Each school grants a focus spell, bonus cantrips, bonus spells known, and extra spell slots that can only prepare spells from your school's curriculum. Schools represent different disciplines of arcane study.
- Arcane Bond: Bond with a staff or a familiar. A familiar provides significant utility and extra actions.
