Marking a single target for focused attention turns tracking and ranged precision into a hunt that rarely misses twice.
Rangers are precision hunters who excel at tracking, ranged combat, and working with animal companions. They use a unique Hunt Prey mechanic to focus devastating attacks on a single target.
Key Ability: Strength or Dexterity
Hit Points per Level: 10 + Constitution modifier
Perception Proficiency: Expert
Saving Throws: Expert Fortitude, Expert Reflex, Trained Will
Attacks: Trained with simple and martial weapons and unarmed attacks
Defenses: Trained in light and medium armor, unarmored defense
Spellcasting: Optional — Rangers can gain Primal spells through the Spellcasting archetype or specific feats, but have no base spellcasting.
Key 1st-Level Features:
- Hunt Prey (1 action): Designate a creature as your prey. Against your prey: you ignore the penalty for attacking at the second range increment, gain a +2 circumstance bonus to Perception checks to Seek them, and gain a +2 circumstance bonus to Survival checks to Track them. Lasts until you designate another prey or it dies.
- Hunter's Edge: Choose Flurry (second attack only −3 MAP), Outwit (+2 circumstance to deception/stealth against prey), or Precision (+1d8 precision damage on first Strike each turn).
- Ranger Feats: Include Animal Companion, Crossbow Ace, Twin Takedown, and more.
