Survival

Wisdom-based skill for tracking, navigating wilderness, and living off the land.

Survival covers navigating wilderness, tracking creatures, and living off the land. It is governed by Wisdom.

When to roll: The DM calls for a Survival check when a character tries to navigate or endure a harsh environment.

Common uses:

  • Following tracks left by creatures or people
  • Navigating without a map using stars, landmarks, or natural signs
  • Finding food and water in the wilderness
  • Predicting weather
  • Identifying dangerous terrain, sinkholes, thin ice, or quicksand
  • Foraging for herbs, mushrooms, or other natural resources

Proficiency: Ranger, Druid, and Barbarian commonly have Survival proficiency.
