A Manmarch hillfort is a village-scale fortified settlement of one hundred fifty to three hundred fifty souls, usually twenty to thirty miles from the next major fort. It gathers taxes and trade from surrounding hamlets and is ruled by a chief responsible for protection and vengeance.
Hillfort resources often include trades, livestock, market activity, timber, professional warriors, rotating hamlet recruits, iron weapons, wooden shields, ramparts, and palisades.
When to use this template
When Manmarch politics need a seat of power: wergild, hostages, war councils, feasting, refugees, rival chiefs, and the possibility of uniting or shattering the region.
