Relationships
  • The CouncilVassal

The Council pays Brennan and the Guard to protect Marshedge, even though Brennan pushes the Council around.

  • The Old FamiliesAlly

The Guard watches High Town and protects the order that favors the Old Families.

  • The GuildsTrade Partner

The Guard keeps Marshedge commerce moving and can be compensated to look the other way.

Marshedge's well-drilled standing watch, about forty guards in all — both public defense and the coercive reach of a former bandit leader.

It includes ex-Claws loyal to Brennan, old-timer loyalists, and newer recruits, and those internal tensions matter. The Guard mans the palisade, toll gates, Edgemarket, Dropoff, High Town, and the Garrison. Brennan, once leader of the Claws, became town marshal because the Council thought paying him would be cheaper and easier than hunting him down.

Hooks

Use the Guard when Marshedge law has a price. They collect tolls, keep order, pass information, look the other way for fees, and decide whether someone is useful to Brennan or a threat to him.
