Archons, Titans, and Incarnations

Three distinct shapes of primordial entity walk (rarely) in the world.

Incarnations

A great spirit can manifest directly. Such incarnations become figures of myth — examples include The Nightingale and, if you decide he's a primordial entity, The Pale Hunter. Build one by choosing the great spirit it incarnates from, then rolling for:

  • Why it incarnated — punishment, summoning, agenda, curiosity, fate, or to learn
  • Manifestation — a normal person, a natural beast, a spirit, an obvious supernatural, a monster, or a multitude
  • Constraint — doesn't realize what it is, subservient, tethered, bound by rules, only briefly manifest, subject to mortal urges, refuses to engage, hunted, or can't use its power without dire consequences

Write it up as a monster and possibly a threat. Be cautious: incarnations should make the world feel rich and dangerous, not overshadow the PCs.

Archons

Constructed spirits, made by the First Creators or a great spirit as guardians and enforcers of cosmic order. The Base Archon stat block is the starting point. Pick a purpose (seek and destroy, judge and punish, retrieve, warn or correct, stand watch), a manifestation (pure energy harmed only by black iron; an animate statue; a mass of vapor; a ripple in reality; a plucked-from-mind figure; or an awe-inspiring impossibility), and up to three powers.

Archons have unique names with unlikely sounds and enigmatic titles — Qrenithar, Dawn Herald; Klythorim, Arrow of Time; Phrysthalin, Bearer of Scales; Lyvontis, the Judge Incorruptible.

Titans

Legends speak of beasts of impossible scale. Tor is said to have slain three; Titan Bones are the side of one. They might have been placed by the First Creators, evolved in the early world's riot of life, or been incarnations and emanations.

Titans no longer roam openly. The Crombil's Lair suggests one that wakes only once every few decades; The Suileach confined to The Dread River may be another; the hidden lands around The Golden Oak teem with gargantuan beasts. Others sleep, hidden, waiting.
