Look here at this little town, this candleflame in the darkness. Its very existence is an act of courage and faith. And Aratis has charged you to keep it: to settle its disputes; to chronicle its tales; to defend it from darkness and ruin. Take up your hammer, Judge. Your town needs you.

The Judge is the appointed servant of Aratis, goddess of civilization and order, sworn to settle Stonetop's disputes, record its history, and stand against the chaos that would unmake it. Hammer in one hand and chronicle in the other, the Judge denounces agents of chaos by name and turns the village's shared memory into a resource the whole party can draw on.

Driven by Ambition, Dispassion, Harmony, Orthodoxy, or Zeal.

A pillar of communal authority alongside The Marshal, the Judge often works hand in hand with The Blessed to guard the town's faith and order against the things that gather in the dark.

Diligence

By writing up detailed session notes and sharing them with the other players, the Judge holds +1 Diligence (via Chronicler of Stonetop). They may spend 1 Diligence at any time to add +1 to a roll that they or a fellow player just made. The Judge's chronicle of Stonetop — the in-fiction history they keep — takes its form and physical location from the Judge's Background.

The latest in a long line of Judges — born here, apprenticed to the prior Judge, charged with passing the mantle. The Chronicle is a rich repository of lore, but there's no index, so good luck finding anything.

Missionary

Part of a larger order of Judges, sent here to protect the flickering flame of civilization. The Chronicle is new and your position uncertain. When you call upon another steading's Judge for aid, they are oathbound to give it — and you to support them.

  • **Bonus move:** Missionary
  • **Special possession:** Aviary — Trained messenger birds, as is the way of the Judges of your order. When you send a message via trained bird, the GM tells you if and when you receive a response, and what it says.
