Fonqon Trees

Parent page Fonqugon --- Fonqugon civilization expanded steadily outward from the ancient groves of fonqon trees within the inland swamps of Rodnarth's largest continent. Most species that evolved on Rodnarth died out quickly due to unexpected natural disasters, but the southern continent was, out of pure chance, spared from such events for a long-enough period to allow fonqon trees to thrive. These towering, twisted willows—some of them many hundreds of feet tall—absorb nutrients and primal energies from the planet's crust and atmosphere, and their root networks secrete the slimy, glistening ooze that births fonqugons. While individual fonqugons can survive on their own, the continuation of fonqugon society depends entirely on fonqon trees, and the trees depend on fonqugons to nurture and protect them. Fonqon trees have deep purple trunks and vibrant sea-green leaves; when a fonqon tree is dying, it turns the color of rust, a sign that it's time to destroy the tree before it begins spawning aberrant parasitic oozes that can mimic fonqugons and wield occult magic. Thankfully, Rodnarth has had no such spawning incidences in recent history thanks to fonqugons' diligence in tending the fonqon groves.
