When to use a Skirmish Encounter

Since they include player characters, multiple troops, and possibly enemy leaders, skirmish encounters take longer and involve an additional layer of complexity. This makes them well suited for occasional special sessions. Avoid giving the PCs access to their troops on a regular basis, and carefully think out the structure of your skirmish encounters. It’s especially important to set clear objectives to avoid the battle bogging down and feeling overlong.
