An undead spellcaster's touch turns the fallen into fresh recruits, letting the newly risen do the dying's work while it hangs back.
A virulak necromancer is an undead spellcaster whose touch breeds more undead, turning the slain into the next link in a spreading plague of unlife. It fights from behind a wall of stolen magic, content to let its victims rise and do the dying for it.
