Weapon Trait — Deadly

Deadly (die): add extra dice of specified size on critical hits. More extra dice with higher striking runes. Rewards crit-fishing builds. Less powerful than Fatal.

Deadly weapons deal extra damage on critical hits. The trait specifies a die size (e.g., Deadly d8).

Mechanical Effect:

  • On a critical hit, add one die of the specified size to damage
  • At weapon damage dice of 2 or 3, add 2 or 3 extra dice respectively
  • Example: A deadly d8 weapon that normally deals 1d8 damage deals 2d8 (doubled from crit) + 1d8 (deadly) = 3d8 on a crit
  • With 2 weapon damage dice (from striking rune): 4d8 (doubled) + 2d8 (deadly) = 6d8

Common Deadly Weapons:

  • Pick (deadly d6), rapier (deadly d8), scythe (deadly d10)
  • Some bows and crossbows

Deadly vs. Fatal: Deadly adds extra dice on crits. Fatal ALSO upgrades the weapon's damage die on crits. Fatal is generally stronger because it doubles a larger die AND adds extra dice.

Tactical Note: Deadly weapons reward crit-fishing builds — anything that increases your critical hit chance (Keen rune, true strike, flanking for Off-Guard) synergizes with Deadly. Pick weapons with Deadly d10 (like the scythe) for maximum crit damage.
