Resting and Recovery
8-hour rest recovers HP equal to Con mod times level and restores spell slots; 1-hour daily preparations set up prepared spells; [[compendium:action:Treat Wounds]] provides between-combat HP recovery.
Characters need rest to recover resources. PF2e uses a daily preparation model.
Overnight Rest (8 hours):
- Recover HP equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1) multiplied by your level
- Recover all spell slots
- Recover all focus points
- Remove most conditions (Wounded decreases by 1)
- Reset daily-use abilities and items
Daily Preparations (1 hour): After resting, characters spend 1 hour in morning preparations:
- Prepared casters choose spells
- Alchemists brew their daily free items
- Champions and druids commune with their deities/nature
- Players check for expiring effects and buffs
Treat Wounds: Can be used during exploration to restore HP without resting. A successful Medicine check (DC 15, Trained) restores 2d8 HP. A creature can only benefit from Treat Wounds once per hour.
The Wounded Condition: Wounded is removed when someone successfully Treats your Wounds or you are restored to full HP and rest for 10 minutes.
Long-Term Care: Tending to wounds over multiple days can accelerate recovery from special conditions.
Resource Management: PF2e is designed for multi-encounter adventuring days. Rest recovers HP based on Constitution and level (not full HP), so Treat Wounds between combats is essential. GMs should plan accordingly.
