Hero Points

Meta-currency earned each session and from good play; spent to reroll d20 rolls or avoid death entirely at the cost of all remaining points.

Hero Points represent moments of heroic luck and determination. The GM awards them during play to reward good roleplaying, clever solutions, or memorable moments.

Gaining Hero Points:

  • Players start each session with 1 Hero Point.
  • The GM can award additional Hero Points during play (typically 1 per notable moment per session, up to around 3-4 total).
  • Maximum of 3 Hero Points at a time.

Spending Hero Points (player choice):

  • Reroll: Spend 1 Hero Point to reroll any single d20 roll (before the outcome is announced). You must use the new result.
  • Avoid Death: Spend all remaining Hero Points when you would die to instead fall unconscious at 0 HP with the Dying 1 condition. You survive.

GM Guidance: Award Hero Points for: taking a risk that defines character, excellent in-character decisions, making others laugh or invested, portraying flaws or complications honestly.

Heroism Bonus (variant): Some GMs allow spending Hero Points for a +1 circumstance bonus to a single roll without rerolling.

Why It Matters: Hero Points give players agency in life-or-death moments without breaking the game's challenge. They encourage engagement and theatrical play.
