You have been turned to stone. You are an object, not a creature, for most purposes.
Mechanical Effects:
- You can't act, move, or sense anything
- You gain Hardness 8 (damage resistance like an object)
- You are immune to most effects while petrified (you're stone)
- You don't age, breathe, eat, or sleep
- You are unaware of the passage of time
- Ongoing effects on you (like persistent damage or conditions) are suspended, not removed
How Applied:
- Flesh to stone spell
- Basilisk gaze
- Cockatrice touch
- Medusa gaze
- Certain powerful magical effects
How Removed:
- Stone to flesh or restore senses
- Break enchantment
- Some powerful divine healing
- The original effect's specific cure (if any)
Important Notes:
- If a Petrified creature is broken or destroyed (HP reduced past broken threshold), they cannot be restored — they are dead
- Petrified creatures have HP like objects — if someone attacks the statue, they might kill the person inside
- Moving a Petrified creature requires treating them as heavy stone of their size
Tactical Impact: Petrification is effectively a save-or-die effect. The petrified character is removed from combat and requires specific magic to restore. Protecting the stone statue from being broken is critical.
