The following backgrounds are available during character creation, each defining a pre-adventuring life.
Acrobat Ability Boosts: STR or DEX, free. Skills: Acrobatics (trained), Lore: Circus Lore. Feat: Acrobatic Performer (use Acrobatics for Performance checks involving agility).
Acolyte Ability Boosts: WIS or INT, free. Skills: Religion (trained), Lore: Scribing Lore. Feat: Assurance (Religion) — take 10 on Religion checks automatically.
Artist Ability Boosts: STR or CHA, free. Skills: Crafting (trained), Lore: Art Lore. Feat: Specialty Crafting (gain bonuses to craft a specific item category).
Criminal Ability Boosts: DEX or INT, free. Skills: Stealth (trained), Lore: Underworld Lore. Feat: Experienced Smuggler (hide items exceptionally well).
Entertainer Ability Boosts: CHA or DEX, free. Skills: Performance (trained), Lore: Theater Lore. Feat: Fascinating Performance (fascinate an audience).
Guard Ability Boosts: STR or CHA, free. Skills: Intimidation (trained), Lore: Legal Lore. Feat: Quick Coercion (coerce creatures in 1 minute rather than longer).
Merchant Ability Boosts: INT or CHA, free. Skills: Diplomacy (trained), Lore: Mercantile Lore. Feat: Bargain Hunter (spend 1 hour to find discounted gear).
Scholar Ability Boosts: INT or WIS, free. Skills: One of Arcana/Nature/Occultism/Religion (trained), Lore: Academia Lore. Feat: Assurance (chosen skill).
Warrior Ability Boosts: STR or DEX, free. Skills: Athletics (trained), Lore: Warfare Lore. Feat: Experienced Tracker (follow tracks in dim light, ignore most penalties).
