Burning
Hazard effect: 1d4 fire damage at the start of each turn; an action extinguishes the flames.
Burning [Hazard]
A creature that is Burning is on fire and suffers ongoing fire damage until the flames are extinguished.
Effects:
- At the start of each of its turns, a Burning creature takes 1d4 fire damage
- A creature can use its action to extinguish the flames on itself or on an adjacent creature, ending the Burning condition
- Submerging in water, being doused with a sufficient volume of liquid, or rolling on the ground (DM's call, typically an action) also ends the condition
- Magical fires that ignore mundane countermeasures (alchemist's fire, hellfire, dragon breath at the DM's discretion) may require a specific remedy
Setting things on fire: Flammable objects and creatures wearing flammable clothing can be set Burning by sustained exposure to open flame, certain spells (Fireball, Burning Hands at the DM's discretion), and hazards like torches, braziers, and lava.
Stacking: Burning does not stack — a creature is either Burning or it is not. Multiple ignition sources do not increase the per-turn damage.
Category: Burning is a Hazard effect, not a Conditions entry in the strict sense. It can be applied by environmental sources as well as spells.
