Friendly
An NPC well-disposed toward the party who will cooperate within reasonable limits.
Friendly [Attitude]
A Friendly creature is well-disposed toward the party. It wishes them well and is inclined to cooperate within the limits of its own safety, values, and obligations.
What Friendly means in play:
- The creature will share information freely, within what it knows
- It will offer help, hospitality, or favors when the cost is reasonable
- It will not betray the party in the current scene barring strong reason
- It will not automatically risk its life, break its own oaths, or violate its allegiances — friendship has limits
How a creature becomes Friendly:
- Pre-existing relationship (family, faction, prior aid given)
- A successful Influence action shifting attitude one step up from Indifferent
- A magical effect such as charm person (friendly for the duration, with caveats — see the spell)
- Roleplay that aligns clearly with the NPC's values or self-interest
How a creature stops being Friendly:
- The party acts against its interests or values
- A failed Influence check by the party (a critical failure can shift attitude downward)
- New information that changes its assessment of the party
Contrast: Indifferent and Hostile are the other two attitudes. See Attitude for the framework.
