Tool Proficiencies
17 artisan's tool sets plus disguise kit, thieves' tools, poisoner's kit, and others. Proficiency adds your bonus to relevant ability checks.
Tool proficiency lets you add your proficiency bonus to ability checks made using that tool set.
Artisan's Tools

Using Tools
When you make an ability check that involves a tool you're proficient with, add your proficiency bonus. The DM determines the relevant ability score — thieves' tools typically use Dexterity, herbalism kit uses Wisdom, etc.
Gaining Tool Proficiency
Backgrounds, class features, ancestries, and the 250-day Training downtime activity grant tool proficiencies. The Skilled feat grants proficiency in three skills or tools.
