Carrying Capacity

Carrying capacity = Strength score x 15 lbs. Push/drag/lift up to double that. Size multipliers apply.

A creature's carrying capacity determines how much weight it can bear.

Carrying capacity: Your Strength score multiplied by 15 equals the weight (in pounds) you can carry. This includes all worn and carried equipment.

Push, drag, or lift: You can push, drag, or lift a weight up to twice your carrying capacity (Strength score x 30 lbs). While pushing or dragging weight in excess of your carrying capacity, your speed drops to 5 feet.

Size modifiers:

  • Tiny creatures: carrying capacity is halved.
  • Large creatures: carrying capacity is doubled.
  • Huge creatures: carrying capacity is quadrupled.

Variant: Encumbrance (optional rule):

  • If you carry weight exceeding 5x your Strength score, you are encumbered — your speed drops by 10 feet.
  • If you carry weight exceeding 10x your Strength score, you are heavily encumbered — your speed drops by 20 feet, and you have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws that use Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution.
