The Crombil
A sleeping horror beneath the Great Wood, ancient and hungry and due to wake.
Every few decades the Great Wood erupts in a burning, gnawed-out swath, and the older trappers go quiet: the Crombil is awake again. A great scaly wurm hundreds of feet long, it sleeps somewhere beneath the Wood between rampages.
Appearance: A serpentine mass of dark, ridged scales, each the size of a roof-slate, running the length of what seems like three or four longhouses end to end. Its head is angular and broad, low to the ground, with small pale eyes set far back from a blunt snout. Where it has passed, bark is stripped from trees at shoulder height and the ground is gouged in parallel furrows.
