Nia

A child who watches things the adults have long since learned not to see.

She watches the animals more attentively than the adults. Nia is a village child whose stillness unsettles grown-ups in ways they can't quite name — and whose attention is on something only she can perceive.

Her instinct is to follow something only she can perceive. She's found in a collapsed house on the edge of town with chalk drawings of spiders on the walls and an altar of sticks, fur, and web shaped like a great spider. A walking mystery and potential hook into Forest Folk and Great Wood storylines — handle carefully so she feels like a child, not a plot device.

Moves

  • Say something about the Wood that she could not possibly know
  • Lead someone to a place or thing that turns out to be relevant
  • Respond to the Forest Folk's presence in ways that other children don't

Appearance: A child who watches animals more attentively than she watches people. Serene in a way that slightly unnerves adults.

Instinct: To follow something only she can perceive
