Voidblights

What seeps through a festering rift — hunger given shape, wearing whatever the wound suggests.

Group, primordial, corrupted, hungering. A category of being rather than a single creature — what crawls through when a Sites of Primordial Power, Portals, and Black Iron rift festers unsealed. Voidblights take whatever shape the rift suggests: skittering eyeless things, smears of negative space, half-formed limbs that aren't quite there.

They are not native. They do not belong. A Seeker who knows what they are looking at recognizes the wrongness immediately; everyone else feels nauseous and finds it hard to keep their gaze fixed.

In play

  • Treat as a swarm-class threat: damage spreads across the group rather than dropping individuals
  • Vulnerable to black iron and to the spell-techniques that close rifts — ordinary weapons do half damage, and even that only forces them back through the rift; it doesn't end them
  • Once the rift seals, any voidblights still on this side begin to dissolve over hours
  • Use when the PCs poke too hard at a primordial site, when an archon falls or is killed, or as the wandering-monster manifestation of a rift threat

GM moves

  • Distort the senses of anyone nearby (smells wrong, sounds delayed, colors bleed)
  • Latch onto a spell or magic item and drain it
  • Pull a weaker spirit through the rift behind them
  • Open a second, smaller rift somewhere nearby
