Wishing Candles

A remarkably supple vellum scroll found in an ivory tube, its strange alphabet penned in dark red ink among diagrams that might be a recipe, a spell, or both. Followed faithfully, the scroll's unsavory recipe yields a handful of Wishing Candles, each one an act of acquisitive magic. Burn a candle and utter the ugly incantation, name what you wish to acquire, and it comes into your possession soon after. The magic never asks payment of you directly — instead it draws the cost from the village around you, in failed crops, stolen assets, sickened neighbors, or creeping panic.
