The Staff of the Lidless Orb

An unblinking eye that sees every hidden thing—and twists the one who looks back.

Category
Major

A sphere of greenish glass etched with a cat's-eye design, set atop a rough black-iron staff. The Orb seems to look around on its own, restless and watchful. Grip the staff, close your eyes, and you see through it instead—piercing darkness, illusion, and invisibility, and reading the emotions that radiate from people and linger on places.

Its deeper powers cast sight across time and distance, steal the eyes from another creature, mesmerize a mortal gaze, or wrack a living victim with sickening vertigo. But every use marks the bearer's flesh and mind, and far below stirs El'rash-Orra, the Many Eyes, who gazes up at whoever wields the Orb and waits to be obeyed.

Properties

When you grip the staff, close your eyes, and see through the Lidless Orb, roll +CON. On a 10+, choose 3; on a 7-9, choose 1: see through natural or magical darkness; see through illusion, glamour, and invisibility; see strong emotions as auras radiating from people or lingering on places; move and act effectively while seeing through the Orb. Once you unlock its marked powers, bearing the staff lets you call on the Orb to cast your sight afar, steal another creature's sight, mesmerize a mortal gaze, or sicken a living victim with nausea and vertigo if 2d4 beats its current HP. After choosing an effect, roll +CON; on a 10+, it occurs; on a 7-9, either mark a Consequence and have it occur or let it fail; on a 6-, ask the GM what happens.
