A scroll written in a cramped, seemingly nonsensical hand sits beside a flute carved from human arm-bone, its pages filled with graph-like diagrams. The notes are a cipher and the diagrams the notation for a song — the proper tune for summoning a dool spirit and binding it to service. Deciphering the music takes weeks, and a botched first performance only aggravates the spirit it was meant to call.
