A six-inch cube of dull gray metal, crusted with hinges, knobs, dials, sliders, and levers, a thing of mad genius that defies every attempt to force it open. Within lie runes that impose primordial change upon any object you inscribe.
Whoever built the box hid the lesson deep: the symbols etched along its inside reward only patient study, and the deepest secret can be wrung not from the metal but from a primordial spirit willing to teach it. The power that waits is genuine creation, the raw stuff of the world made answerable to a mortal hand. But primordial forces are not tame, and they channel through the one who wields them — sometimes obedient, sometimes ruinous, and rarely content to do only what they are told.
To unlock it
- roll +INT to open the box: on a 10+, it takes a few days of fiddling; on a 7-9, it takes a few obsessive weeks; on a 6-, it’s beyond you.
- spend a season deciphering the symbols etched along the inside.
- risk never being able to decipher the symbols, and/or developing some mental quirk as you do so.
- commune with a primordial spirit and learn the Silent Words from it.
- spend a few weeks practicing the spell, risking all sorts of harm and collateral
